Pfizer Inc. announced that its arthritis pain-relieving drug Celebrex has been found to increase the risk of heart problems in patients. All advertisement of Celebrex has been put on hold. It has not currently been removed from the market, but the Food and Drug Administration has said that option is not ruled out and is currently being reviewed. A study concluded that Celebrex increased the risk of heart attacks two fold in patients using Celebrex compared to those taking a placebo. As with all other cox-2 inhibitors, Celebrex has also been found to be linked to serious side effects such as:· Serious stomach problems, such as:
- Stomach and intestinal bleeding
- Serious allergic reactions
- Serious kidney problems
- Severe liver problems
